Tell me a story!

This exercise is very funny. The teacher gives the students 10 words, and they have to write a story using them.
They can practice writing but at the same time they develop the imagination and the creativity.

·        Write a story using these words:
1) Witch
2) Pumpkin
3) Countryside
4) Ice cream
5) Clown
6) Pig
7)Bus
8) Pizza
9) Rain
10) Book.

Another good idea is to have a bag with small toys or finger puppets in it. The students choose 5 toys and they have to write a story using this characters. This activity will give them some inspiration for writing a story.

Reading time

Reading is very important but what it is more important is to understand what  we are reading. Some people read but they don’t pay attention and when they finish they don’t know what they have read. This activity is about reading. This activity help students to pay attention of what they are reading because after that they have to answer some questions. Reading activities are also good to practice and develop concentration.

Text:
Yesterday Ben got plenty of sleep. He didn’t stay up late. He ate plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. He drank milk, juice and water. Ben got plenty of exercise. It was a great day.
His sister Anna didn’t feel very well. She get enough sleep. She didn’t get enough exercise, she was in front of the TV all day. He didn’t play football or go for a walk in the park. Yesterday, Anna ate too much junk food. She ate lots of sweets, biscuits and crisps. She didn’t eat any fruit or vegetables.

Question:
-         Did Ben get enough sleep yesterday?
-         What did Ben eat?
-         What did Ben drink?
-         What did Anna eat?
-         Did Anna get enough exercise?
-         What did Anna drink?
-         Did Anna eat fruit or vegetables?

Listen up

Hi again,

in this post we are going to practice listening.

The students will have a picture (an empty living room). They have to listen carefully and draw what they are listening.

For example:
"In my house there are three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a big kitchen, a living room, a dining room and a nice garden.
In the living room there is a picture next to the window. The picture is blue and yellow.
On the table there are two glasses of milk. The small red ball is under the sofa and there is a small table next to the sofa. The sofa is green and the black cat is on it".

I think, this activity is very attractive for them, because they must draw and colour.

Keep calm and speak English

Hi there,

I would like to start the blog with an activity to practice speaking. Most of the students feel embarrassed when they have to speak English and that is because they need practice. To develop this skill students need to practice, they can practice in pairs or in group.

One activity to practice speaking is the role-play
Students can act as if they are in a real life situation.

For example: Situation: They are in a hospital.
One of the students is the doctor and the other student is the patient.
They need to improvise a conversation which takes 3 minutes. They cannot stop talking, that's the idea. So, the patient can talk about how does he/she feel, and the doctor must tell him/her what should he/ she do etc.

Next time, the situation will be different. Two students act as two different people, for example one of them will be the tourist and the other one the citizen. The tourist is lost and they need to ask for information, the citizen will help him with the directions.

With this activity students can practice English and at the same time they can practice everyday language and situations. I believe that they will enjoy this activity because it is very funny and dynamic.
